Development of International Academic Cooperation
From June 16 to 18, Minsk hosted a large-scale 10th Meeting of the Ministers of Education of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states. In 2026, the Belarusian State University of Foreign Languages will join the SCO University and operate within the "Pedagogy" and "Regional Studies" clusters.
On June 16, Rector of BSUFL Natalya Lapteva and Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs in International Cooperation and Internationalization of Education Elena Ignatovich took part in the Conference of the SCO University. At the conference, university representatives held talks with their long-standing partner — Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU). The delegation from BFSU was led by Liu Xinwu, a member of the Party Standing Committee, Vice-Rector, and Professor. A roadmap for the operation of the Belarusian-Chinese Center for Humanitarian Exchanges became the subject of discussion.
On June 17, the SCO Rectors' Forum was held at the National Library of Belarus, during which Natalya Lapteva, Rector of BSUFL, and Zhilo Gulnazarzoda, Rector of the Tajik International University of Languages named after Sotim Ulugzode, discussed academic mobility and conducting joint research in the field of Regional Studies.
Additionally, on June 17, the SCO Young Scientists Forum was held at the National Children's Technopark, in whose poster session BSUFL lecturers took part.
It is worth noting that from June 15 to 18, BSUFL staff and students provided top-tier linguistic support for the Meeting: simultaneous and consecutive interpretation of foreign delegations' arrivals and departures, as well as sessions, negotiations, and meetings. Additionally, during the SCO Young Scientists Forum, BSUFL volunteers rendered significant assistance in meeting and coordinating guests.
BSUFL's joining the SCO Network University confirms the university's high status as a reliable partner in the international educational space. This strategic partnership opens up new opportunities for academic mobility and intercultural dialogue, and it can be stated with confidence that further cooperation within the framework of the SCO University will be equally fruitful and mutually beneficial for all participants!
